The Faculty 7: Natural and Environmental Sciences invites applications for a

Postdoctoral position (100%) (f/m/d)

at the Institute for Environmental Sciences – Working Group of Quantitative Landscape Ecology at the Campus Landau/Pfalz, Germany. The successful applicant will work on the DFG project “Disconnected: integrating spatial complexity in multiple stressor research”. The appointment is for 2.5 years starting from January 2021 and subject to the German law on fixed-term contracts in science (WissZeitVG). Salary will be according to 100% of the German public service salary scale TV-L 13.

Topic:

The postdoctoral project investigates the influence of river network spatial structure on the effects of multiple interacting stressors on local communities (invertebrates and microbial). The project relies on the implementation of manipulative field and laboratory experiments in our research facilities and also offers room for theoretical developments via computer simulation and modelling. The candidate is expected to develop, conduct, analyze and publish the results. The study is funded by the German Research Foundation. As a member of the Quantitative Landscape Ecology group and in close cooperation with the Eußerthal Ecosystem Research Station and other working groups, the PhD candidate will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and will work within the young and interdisciplinary team of researchers at the Institute for Environmental Sciences.

Anforderungsprofil

Requirements:

University degree and a PhD on a topic with links to freshwater ecology, community ecology, theoretical ecology or analysis of environmental data. You have an excellent research performance, as evidenced by publications. Expertise in one or all of the following areas: ecology, data analysis, multiple stressors, mesocosm experiments, metabarcoding, gut content analysis, stoichiometric analysis and dynamic modeling. Knowledge in freshwater ecology and of ecotoxicology are of benefit but not a prerequisite for the position. Experience in the acquisition of third-party funds and in the use of free software (for example, R, Python, PostgreSQL) is desired. The candidate has the necessary practical skills to conduct field work and has a car driving license.
